Linking Minority Language Dictionaries to Open Data
What is the role of a dictionary?
Is the role of a dictionary to regulate or to standardize spelling? Is it to validate a speech variety as being real or a bon fide language? Or is it for documenting and establishing the relationships and connections between things (plants, animals, fish, spirits/gods, medicines, etc.) as they are emicly viewed, for connecting people via collaboration, or connecting related concepts and their classes together into documented sets? Or even connecting these things and relationships as they are viewed in one culture to the same things and relationships as they are viewed in another culture or more broadly cross-culturally? I love Mexican Hot Chocolate. Becky and I discovered Mayordomo Chocolate from Oaxaca, Mexico while we were visiting friends. Anytime we come back to Oaxaca we stop by Mayordomo and buy a few pounds to consume wherever we are living.

We were driving through Arkansas and saw this bridge. I guess it is called War Eagle Bridge.
Balsa Wood Model Airplanes
I have tried my hand at a few model airplanes. I really like the detail, planing, engineering and creativity required to build models. The first model airplane that I build was a balsa wood piper cub. I was just out of first grade. My dad guided me in the production of this plane (or maybe I was assisting him…). We cut the wood from the designs. We glued with pins in a tack board. We doped the tissue paper. Continue reading

The role of relationships in an data centric industry
I once listend to a Creative Commons Salon titled: What Does it Mean to Be Open in a Data-Driven World? and in that discussion there was a great discussion on what it means to have data which flows and is openMinute 50 has a really interesting comment about sharing scientific data.
