4th of July cake
Blueberries and currants are both ripe in our garden. So this is our Fourth of July cake chocolate lava cake, whip cream, and fresh berries.

We made it to the mountains shortly after my 40th birthday. Glacier national park. One of my favorite places in the world.

We went to the southern French coast and they said that we should try the fougasse d’aigues mortes. We did. It was like an angel food cake with a sugar glaze. Much like a pineapple-upsidedown-cake, but made with orange blossoms.
Nîmes
While many in the world feel the pandemic is a disaster or a disruption, we have weathered the storm and found great things in this time. Hugh V was born just days before France shut down. Through that experience we met a mid-wife who blessed us beyond belief. Then I helped her move. At that event I then met her sister who invited us to stay with her and her husband in Nîmes. So during a school break we took a train with two kids and a stroller to a city we’d never been to before.
During our stay I got sick but thankfully it wasn’t COVID. We still trudged through mostly empty streets looking at restored architectural wonders, leaning about the linguistic and cultural diversity of the area, and visiting museums.
These experiences would not have been possible without the generosity of our French friends or the logistic persistence of my wife.
One of the fantastically fun things I started on this trip was sketching with my daughter.
Christmas Eve Traditions
Im really glad my family has some traditions with regard to Christmas. 
Chinese food for Christmas Eve is one of them.

My brother and family visited from Portland. We made a day of it at the Oregon coast.
Making a recipe blog
My wife, Becky likes to cook. I like her to cook. She recently started to blog. So I talked her through the MySQL database set up and the installation of her own copy of WordPress on our Dreamhost account. (I must admit that it was a happy day.) One of the things she is doing is writing about what she cooks, with pictures of how it turns out.
“Cool”, says I. But how does one keep track of all the recipes? So I asked her why she was blogging. And she said that one of the reasons was that if she had a fixin’ to use a certain ingredient she would have a place to search to see if she had cooked with that ingredient before and how it turned out.
So I am on the hunt for a recipe plugin or recipe management CMS for her.
So far I have come across OpenEats.
And for Using WordPress itself there is hRecipe.
